Anchuca means “happy home” in Chocotaw and this bed and breakfast/hotel certainly makes you feel very welcome. Built in 1830, the house was a hospital after the surrender of Vicksburg in the Civil War and, interestingly, cared for both Confederate and Union soldiers. The slave quarters are also still in tact. It was the first house in Vicksburg to offer tours.
There are only three bedrooms in the house itself and they are absolutely gorgeous. Without doubt, this is the prettiest bed I have ever slept in (ask for the Wilson Room)! You can also stay in the carriage house though. There is a pretty pool area and a restaurant where you can get a good “comfort food” style dinner, although downtown Vicksburg is just a short walk away. Breakfasts are generous Southern style (no buffet).
There are some beautiful antiques in the house and the little lampshades are just sooooo cute!
