Today, we begin our discovery of New Zealand.  We are exploring the North Island first and then moving onto the South Island before returning home to the UK via Australia (Sydney) and Dubai.

We are expecting a wide variety of landscape on the trip as the northern part of North Island is subtropical and volcanic whilst the Southern tip of South Island is sub Antarctic.

Fascinating fact:
Once, although there were insects and birds here, there was only one species of mammal here – a small bat.  Many of the birds were flightless as there was no exposure to predators.
