GPSmyCity App: A Personal Walking Tour Guide in your Pocket!
Visiting a new city is fun, but it can also be quite daunting – especially if you have a limited time there and want to make the absolute most of it. Where do you start? What you really want is a friend on hand to explore the city with you. Someone who has been there and “got the T-shirt”, visited all the must see sights, located the hidden gems and knows some great places to eat and drink. It is time to discover the GPSmyCityApp …
Love to Wander aims to be that friendly guide and recently, I discovered the GPSmyCity App – a handy way of converting my city blog posts into downloadable self-guided walking tours that you can carry with you in your pocket. The locations featured in the blog post are plotted on a map which can be accessed offline using GPS, so there is no need for wifi or eating into your data allowance and no risk of incurring roaming fees either – great when you are travelling, especially abroad.
GPSmyCity is the largest travel portal of its kind with over 6500 city walks in more than 1500 cities across the world – and their database is growing all the time. If you love exploring cities on foot – as I do – then it is a great app to cut short the pre trip research before you set off to explore a new city.
Just like Love to Wander, the GPSmyCity App aims to be your friendly pocket travel guide, so I decided it was a good time for us to partner up and share some of my blog posts on the App.
How Does the GPSMyCity App Work?
Basically, it’s a FREE app on your mobile device that allows you to search for and download travel articles to use as an offline resource on your trip.
All you need to do is download the GPSmyCity app to your mobile device from their website or directly from Google Play or the AppStore for iOs devices. You can then create a free account to gain access to all the city walks, maps and travel articles.
You can purchase an annual subscription for the upgraded version for around $20 (at the time of writing) which gives you full access to all of the app’s GPS-enabled city walk guides and travel guides whenever and wherever you want them. On the train, on a plane – even on the beach – it’s all at your fingertips tips!
“Lose Yourself Without Getting Lost”
Better still, if you read about a site that interests you and decide to get up and go and visit it, you can tap the button to get a walking route straight there from your current location – all clearly charted on the offline city map on your smart phone without the need of a data plan or even an internet connection. So you can create a customised walking tour just as the mood takes you if you want to and – as the GPSmyCity App markets itself – “lose yourself without getting lost”. It opens the door to whole new freewheeling approach to travel.
Websites like GetyourGuide are a good resource for finding expertly guided walking tours by locals, but for a low cost self-guided alternative that you don’t need to pre book and is ready to set off whenever you are, I think the GPSMyCity App is very hard to beat.

I am delighted to say that you can now find 8 of Love to Wander’s blog posts on the GPSmyCity App. Each of them can be downloaded for free by clicking on the following article links and downloading the GPSMyCity app when prompted (unless you’ve already done so). Once downloaded you will be re-directed to the article app where you’ll find an option to upgrade to the offline map and a GPS-enabled version if you wish to do so.
